Tire Rotation Pattern 4x4

The most common tire rotation pattern used on four wheel drive vehicles is the rearward cross. This pattern moves the front tires rearward and across to the opposite sides of the car or truck. The rear tires move forward but do not switch sides of the vehicle. X-Pattern The X-pattern is very popular and acceptable to with four wheel drive vehicles. This is the most commonly used tire rotation pattern for 4×4 cars. Here's how to do it: The rear left tire moves to the front left The front left tire moves to the rear right Side to Side This tire rotation isn't widely used because it's only recommended in case your tires aren't the same size.

There are specific tire rotation patterns that should be followed, based on these factors: Whether your tires are directional or non-directional (directional tires have a tread pattern that is designed to rotate in one direction only) Whether your vehicle is front-wheel, rear-wheel, 4-wheel, or all-wheel drive Most tyres fitted to four-wheel drives are suitable for rotation, so long as all tyres are of the same size and type with the same load rating and are not labelled for temporary use. It should be noted that uni-directional tyres can only be moved from front to rear (and vice versa), but not from side to side.

Preparing your Car for Tire Rotation. Once you have decided upon a tire rotation pattern for your all-wheel drive vehicle, it is time to prepare your car for tire rotation. Begin by ensuring that your vehicle is parked on level ground. An uneven parking surface may destabilize your car jack and jack stands while rotating tires.

There are three traditional tire rotation patterns which can be followed: Front-wheel drive vehicles - Rotate the tires in a forward cross pattern (Figure 1) or the alternative X pattern (Figure 2) Rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive vehicles - Rotate the tires in a rearward cross pattern (Figure 3) or the alternative X pattern (Figure 2)

Both rear axle tires move directly forward to the front axle while the spare tire moves to the right side of the rear axle. The right front tire moves diagonally back to the left side of the rear axle while the left front tire becomes your new spare tire. 2. FORWARD CROSS (FRONT-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES):

The side-to-side rotation pattern is exactly as it sounds: swap the right tire on the rear axle with the left tire on the rear axle and the front right tire with the front left tire. This pattern is mostly used for vehicles with different sized tires in the front and back.

There is a specific tire rotation pattern to follow and that most shops probably follow if you are rotating tires on a rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive vehicle/truck. The rear tires go straight.

The pattern of rotation depends on whether you have a front-wheel-drive car, if the tires are non-directional, if the tires are the same size, and if the car or truck is 4-wheel or all-wheel-drive. It can also be good to rotate the spare tire, assuming that it exactly matches the size and direction of the other four tires on the vehicle.
